How to read your water meter

Communicating the reading of your water meter during the period indicated on the bill allows you to pay exclusively for the water used, and not based on an estimate. In addition, reading the meter periodically allows you to keep consumption under control and monitor for any leaks.

You can communicate the self-reading in one of the following ways.
Keep the water contract number, indicated on the first page of the bill, at hand.

 

Dial-style model

The dials with black numbers indicate cubic meters, while the decimals are red. To read the meter, just note the numbers with black indices. The reading is done clockwise, starting from the bottom left and moving to the right. Only the black clock hands should be read.
How to multiply the values:

• the first x 1000 m³ (thousands)
• the second x 100 m³ (hundreds)
• the third x 10 m³ (tens)
• the fourth x 1 m³ (units)

If the hand is positioned between two numbers, consider the lower number that precedes the hand.
If a hand is positioned near or on a number, to determine the correct value, take into account the value of the previous hand.
It works like a normal clock. For example, if the tens hand is above 3 (3 x 10 = 30), evaluate the position of the units hand: if it is on 9 (or before 0) the exact value of the tens will be 2 (so 29, not 39); if the units hand has passed 0, the exact value for the tens is 3 (thus 30).

 

Direct-read model

It is sufficient to consider (reading them as usual from left to right) the whole black digits, ignoring the zeros to the left of the first number. If the digit is not well aligned, the lower one must be considered.

 

Smart metering meter for remote reading

Users who have had the new smart metering meter installed for remote reading do not need to communicate their consumption, since the meter transmits it automatically.
However, at least once a year, a meter reader technician is scheduled to check and inspect the meter pit.

Advice

In winter months, it is advisable to protect the water meter. If it is outdoors, to prevent it from being damaged by ice, the meter should be protected with rags. If temperatures are very low (especially at night, when there is no consumption and the water stagnates), it is preferable to insert insulating materials, such as polystyrene or expanded polyurethane, in the place where it is housed.
If the temperature is constantly and abundantly below zero, only on the coldest days, it is appropriate to let a trickle of water flow from the tap to prevent ice formation: a modest quantity is sufficient, for example letting it run into the bathtub and collecting it in a basin to be reused, thus avoiding unnecessary waste.

Damage, water leaks, or malfunctions

In case of water leaks or if the meter is damaged or malfunctioning, immediately notify the water network fault service at the toll-free number 800.896960, which will intervene promptly.

For condominium users, there is a single meter. The administrator proceeds to pay the condominium expense and then allocates it according to thousandths.
